DiveSMART Baltic – Cooperation of Rescue Divers
DiveSMART Baltic – realised within the Baltic Sea Region Programme – aims at improving the coordination of stakeholders involved in maritime rescue management activities in the Baltic Sea. The project seeks to enhance the level of security standards, thus allowing for targeted and efficient emergency responses at sea.
The project pursues the objective of better coordinating rescue divers in the Baltic Sea region in the case of maritime emergencies. Despite enhanced security efforts in the Baltic Sea, major naval accidents still cannot be completely excluded. The project DiveSMART Baltic shall improve cooperation among professional divers from Baltic Sea countries and their respective national coordination authorities. This allows to be better prepared in case of accidents as well as to ensure a fast and efficient provision of the respective national resources.
DiveSMART Baltic builds upon the national Swedish project “DykSmart”, in which networking activities among Swedish rescue divers have already taken place. A mapping of competences recording the personal and technical resources available in the region shall enable fast information exchange. During the project, the partners devise mobilisation strategies and uniform working processes for joint rescue actions. Shared training operations and an exchange among diving schools / training centres for divers in the Baltic Sea region shall also take place in the project.
DiveSMART Baltic has been approved in the first call of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2014-2020 in November 2015.
