Horizon Europe is the European Union’s framework program for research and innovation. It aims to build an EU-wide knowledge and innovation-based society and a competitive economy. Horizon Europe has a budget of around 95.5 billion euros for the period 2021-2027. While the predecessor programme Horizon 2020 focused mainly on societal challenges and the industrial leadership of the European Union, Horizon Europe targets global challenges and public and free access to science and innovation. Possible partnership concepts have been redefined and the inclusion of non-EU partnerships has been made possible to a greater extent than before. Due to the broad spectrum of funding priorities and call topics, the programme is very complex. A thematically specialized infrastructure of advisory services (National Contact Points) helps coping with this complexity.
