About us

REM Consult was founded in 2003 by Markus Lang (Dipl.-Ing. Spatial Planning). As an EU affairs advisor for the administrative region of Lüneburg, Markus had noticed that cities and counties often struggled with applying for and coordinating EU projects and needed support. He took this observation as his starting point for becoming self-employed and started the first two Interreg projects in the North and Baltic Sea Region. At the same time, Markus also became involved in development cooperation projects.

In the EU funding periods 2007-2013, 2014-2020, and 2021-2027 REM Consult slowly but steadily developed from a sole proprietorship into a small, competent team and successfully accompanied numerous projects funded by the Interreg cross-border, transnational and interregional programmes. REM Consult grew to its current company size of six permanent colleagues. Freelance employees and students from various disciplines support the team. They represent the link to the academic training landscape at home and abroad and continually bring new approaches and perspectives into our work.

In addition to Interreg projects, we also support applications in other EU funding programmes such as Horizon Europe, Creative Europe or CERV as well as federal funding programs (e.g. BMBF, BBSR, BMEL). Besides the development of projects and application writing, the main focus is on supporting project partnerships in project management and financial management as well as public relations. Furthermore, REM Consult conducts and develops studies, concepts and good practice collections in various subject areas of urban and regional development and organises and moderates conferences and workshops.

Since Markus Lang withdraw from the company in March 2022, we have been operating as REM Consult GmbH, based at the Alster in Hamburg. Hauke Siemens has been the managing director since 2010. REM Consult has an extensive network of cooperation partners across Germany and other EU member states. Intercultural cooperation and communication in English language are self-evident components of our work in a transnational environment. To ensure quality and process optimization, all employees regularly attend in-house training, external seminars and team building activities.
