As part of the first call for Operations of Strategic Importance, the eagerly awaited decisions were made during the Monitoring Committee meeting held in Helsinki on 4-5 March. Out of a total of 23 submitted applications, eight were approved! In total, EUR 7.6 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and EUR 80,000 from Norwegian national funding have been allocated to support the implementation of these project platforms.

We congratulate all successful applicants and are delighted that several Baltic Sea Region projects supported by REM have been selected to be part of the newly approved platforms.

The selected project platforms cover a wide range of topics: from handling hazardous substances and strengthening the resilience of coastal regions through improving mental health and well-being, to fostering regenerative tourism and efficient urban mobility, and supporting energy communities, the creative industries, and the cultural sector.

Project platforms significantly contribute to the achievement of the Programme’s objectives, enabling the consolidation of results from Interreg Baltic Sea Region projects and other funding schemes to achieve greater impact.
These unique opportunities to create synergies, foster knowledge exchange, and increase policy impact are among the main reasons why project platforms are considered Operations of Strategic Importance.

The new platforms offer a unique opportunity for 71 partners to cooperate across borders, sectors, governance levels, and funding programmes – with a well-balanced representation of partners from all Programme countries.

A new call for applications is on the horizon!

With the selection of the new project platforms, the Programme’s project portfolio has grown to 115 projects. To address remaining and emerging challenges, a second call for project platform applications is expected to be launched in May 2025!
