AQUAFIMA – Aquaculture and Fishery Management

AQUAFIMA promotes marine aquaculture as an instrument of fisheries management and of sustainable development in the Baltic Sea region

The overall objective of AQUAFIMA was to integrate aquaculture and fisheries management towards a sustainable regional development; alternative approaches such as stocking and restocking were elaborated. Beyond this, the project evaluated and assessed suitable stocking and restocking measures for different fish species and disclosed the potential of aquaculture based fisheries management in the Baltic Sea Region. AQUAFIMA built upon existing resources of fish and aquaculture for economic and tourism development and enhanced labour force skills and professional education in the field of aquaculture management. REM Consult developed this project in cooperation with the Association for Fishery and Environmental Affairs of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Verein Fisch und Umwelt e.V., Mecklenburg-Vorpommern).

The project application was approved in the fourth call of the Baltic Sea Region programme (June 2011).
