Demography & Health
Due to demographic changes, societies are increasingly aging and becoming more diverse in Germany and Europe. This creates new challenges but also opportunities for regions and municipalities.
Demography as a cross-cutting topic touches upon many dimensions of urban and regional development, ranging from a shortage in skilled labour, health, education, mobility and infrastructure to inter-municipal cooperation. Particularly in the area of health, digitalisation offers new opportunities which need to be tested and looked further into. Many potentially promising solutions targeting demographic challenges are already being developed on the local level. Cooperation and mutual learning allow such solutions to spread and to become mature.
Our experience in the ”Health & Demography” field
Our projects Best Agers and Best Agers Lighthouses both promoted the special resources and skills of citizens aged 55 and beyond, a group that is nowadays considered to be healthier and more motivated than ever before. Various further project developments considered the opportunities that digitalisation brings for prevention and elderly care. Recently, we researched and drafted a collection of 160 good practice profiles on behalf of the German Federal Demography Portal, illustrating how local projects from Germany and the EU can counteract demographic challenges.
